Something I always talk about with my clients is revealing the wardrobe they already have. Having personal style isn’t about having a massive closet, or conversely, a capsule wardrobe. It’s about knowing how you want to feel, and curating pieces that suit those key phrases and your own body. Let’s dive in.

First off, I wrote a piece on the “three words”, basically, how you summarize your style in a nutshell. You can read it here, or just a tl:dr now. My style would be boiled down to “bold, classic, elevated”. Some of my clients’ words are “earthy, flowy, fun” and “powerful, coastal, playful”. Pick your phrases, and move forward with them in mind.

Organization

The first thing we are going to do is eliminate the “frosty fibers”, essentially anything that is just too thick for late spring and summer. Put away wool, leather, and heavy garments. Do leave a few light sweaters - they look great folded around your shoulders, or paired with boxers on a summer morning. Keep a few pairs of go-to jeans, like straight leg or wide leg, but put away most else. Leave a few key jackets available, namely a bomber, a tech jacket with a funnel neck, and a cropped trench. You won’t need anything else. I’m in New England, so I do keep pants and long-sleeves handy but out of the way during summer, preferring them toward the back of my closet but still accessible.

To the forefront of your wardrobe, however it’s set up, prioritize pieces that have seasonal color and fabrics with breathability. We all have different color seasons, but lighter and brighter hues look best this season, but of course feel free to keep all your darks and your neutrals. Prioritize linen, gauze, any kind of crochet or lace, and breathable fabrics. Anything that seems too synthetic or just would weigh you down, push toward the back.
