I always thought it was the dress that made the look, but it turns out, you can turn something simple into something fabulous.

This is why the “little black dress” is a thing. Also, did you know the LBD was “created” by Coco Chanel? Turns out, before her, women really only wore black dresses to funerals. Because Coco wanted to break women out of the uncomfortable and cumbersome era of clothing, she created the little black dress to be something chic and not morose. Truly a pioneer!

Anyway, I’ve noticed that some of my favorite “dressy” looks haven’t been about the dress at all, but the styling of it. Here are some ways to take a simple black dress and punch it up with just one tweak.

Footwear

Wrong Shoe Theory - Wear something unexpected. I know it sounds crazy, but I’ve seen sneakers (think Adidas Sambas or the newly-iconic yellow Onitsuka Tigers) look absolutely incredible with LBD’s. What about cowboy boots instead of pumps? Get creative with your footwear and you have a totally new look.
